This tour will use approximately 3 hours to showcase the beloved attractions of the hometown. The location for this tour is the symbol of Kumamoto, "Kumamoto Castle." Among the castles in Japan, Kumamoto Castle is considered one of the three famous castles. It remains in a state close to when it was originally constructed, with its main keep, turrets, and magnificent stone walls. It is a rare place where visitors can actually see and admire the castle in its historical glory. Kumamoto Castle was built during a time when samurai lived 400 years ago. It was constructed by a powerful and strategic samurai warlord named Kato Kiyomasa. During that era, famous warlords and samurai like Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who centered around Osaka Castle, and Tokugawa Ieyasu, who centered around Tokyo Edo, were striving to unify Japan and establish a peaceful society, causing conflicts and civil wars throughout the country. Although Kumamoto was a rural area far from the capital, it held strategic importance in the unification of Japan. Thus, this magnificent castle was built by a strong samurai in Kumamoto.Furthermore, Kumamoto Castle boasts exceptional architectural design. It was constructed by incorporating a hilly terrain with an elevation of approximately 50 meters. The height of the beautiful main keep, located at the heart of the castle, is said to be equivalent to a 14-story building. It is a remarkable example of Japanese original castles, characterized by its beauty, grandeur, and special architectural techniques. The guide will provide a brief explanation of the samurai and the lives of the people who resided in this extraordinary castle. This program is designed to contribute to the reconstruction of Kumamoto Castle. In 2016, the Kumamoto region was struck by a major earthquake with a maximum intensity of 7 (magnitude 7.3). Both Kumamoto Castle and the citizens of Kumamoto City were affected by the disaster. Many residents endured a life-or-death situation. Of course, Kumamoto Castle itself also suffered significant damage. About 30% of the castle's stone walls collapsed, but the castle itself did not crumble. We were encouraged and inspired by the resilience of Kumamoto Castle, which served as a symbol of hope. It has remained unchanged for 400 years and can be considered the identity of Kumamoto. For us, it represents our hometown, gives us courage, and holds a deep attachment as a symbol and icon of Kumamoto. The reconstruction process is estimated to take 30 years, and a portion of the proceeds from this program will contribute to the restoration of Kumamoto Castle. We would be delighted if you could enjoy our Kumamoto Castle and contribute to its reconstruction.
